Research Area:
Circular
design, renewable materials, wood, computational design and fabrication
Research
Experience:
Michael Budig is Assistant Professor in Architecture and Sustainable
Design at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). His
Renewable Architecture Lab revolves around innovative form and construction
intelligence. It studies the impact of computational design and fabrication on tectonics and performance of
building systems. Main focal areas include composite materials and hybrid
systems in combination with renewable materials and wood, flexibility in
correlation with resource consumption and the life-span of buildings, and
design for tropical climates. He was an affiliate faculty at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2016. Prior to his activities at
SUTD he was a senior researcher at the Singapore–ETH Centre's Future Cities
Laboratory, and he was teaching and conducting design research with Zaha Hadid
and Patrik Schumacher at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the
University of Innsbruck. He was the director of a multi-disciplinary office on
architecture, urbanism and design strategies.
