Research Experience:

Dr. Kong Kian Hau is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Dr. Kong graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree with First Class Honors in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from CEE NUS. He was awarded the NUS President Graduate Fellowship in 2002. He specialized in Seismic Engineering for his Ph.D. studying the far-field effects of long-distance earthquake tremors from Sumatra to Buildings in Singapore. Dr. Kong also worked as NUS Research Engineer & Research Fellow (2003-2005) on the NUS-BCA collaboration Research Project on "High Strength Lightweight Concrete with and without Aggregates". Since 2005, Dr. Kong has been a practicing engineer, specializing in Buildings & Infrastructure Projects (including Bridges). He is a Chartered Engineer (M.IStructE) & International Professional Engineer (UK) with 13 years of experience as a Site & Resident Engineer, Senior Design & Project Engineer, Design & Project Manager, Associate (Team Leader) & Senior Associate Consultant for reputable C&S Engineering Consultant Firms based in Singapore completing many residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, infrastructure and civil engineering master planning work in Singapore and Overseas. Dr. Kong is currently serving as Panel Member of the Global Seismic and Dynamic Events in the Institution of Structural Engineers, United Kingdom (IStructE), IES Civil & Structural Engineering Technical Committee Member, Structural Steel Work Technical Committee Member for Structural Steelwork Inspection for Singapore Accreditation Council, Committee Member of the IES- IStructE Joint Committee. He is also the co-Editor of “THE STRUCTURALIST” newsletter for the IStructE Singapore Regional Groupof “THE STRUCTURALIST” newsletter for the IStructE Singapore Regional Group. Dr Kong is currently the Principal Investigator of SMI-2016-OF-5 Research Project, "Characterization of Ultra-High Performance Cementitious Materials and Optimization of Their Gel Transition Period at High Temperature / Pressure for Applications in Plug & Abandonment (P&A) of Oil Wells" funded by the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI)
